                                                          NALS of West Michigan 2008 Legal Professional of the Year Winner

 

 

Congratulations to David W. Centner of Clark Hill PLC for being awarded the 2008 Legal Professional of the Year Award.   

 

David W. Centner is a member of Clark Hill’s Litigation Practice Group. David works in the Grand Rapids office where he specializes in litigation, with a focus on commercial litigation, including complex commercial disputes, copyright, domain name and other intellectual property matters, business torts, creditor’s rights, and bankruptcy.

 

Originally from Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, Mr. Centner was graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. He earned his law degree from Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. During law school, Mr. Centner was an Associate Instructor at Indiana University where he taught undergraduate mathematics.

 

Mr. Centner currently serves as a member of the Litigation Section Council for the State Bar of Michigan. He is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the American Bar Association. Mr. Centner is admitted to practice before all Michigan state courts, the United States District Court for the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Centner has also handled arbitration matters before the American Arbitration Association, the National Association of Securities Dealers, the National Arbitration Forum, and the World Intellectual Property Organization. He is a member of the Board of Managers of the David D. Hunting YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids, and he has been active in the Boy Scouts of America. In April 2008, Mr. Centner was named 2008 Legal Professional of the Year by NALS of West Michigan, an association for legal professionals.

Every year NALS of West Michigan bestows the Legal Professional of the Year Award to a member of our legal community.  Nominations for the  award are solicited from our membership.  Judges are chosen from one of the other Michigan chapters.  All qualified entries are then submitted to the approved chapter and a winner is chosen.  The winner receives his/her award at the annual Awards Ceremony held in April.

Candidate Criteria

The Legal Professional of the Year Award is given to a legal professional judged on the following criteria:

The nominee's professional participation and relationship with others in a professional capacity

 

bullet

The nominee's participation in professional, civic and charitable activities

 

bullet

The nominee's attitude toward the NALS of West Michigan member as a person and an employee

 

bullet

The nominee's participation in and support of member's professional activities

 

Selection Process

 

Application forms are provided to the membership.  Click here for nomination form.

 

The Legal Professional of the Year Committee shall select another chapter of the multi-level association, from which judges will be chosen.  That chapter will select three of its  members to act as judges.  

 

The Committee shall then submit all qualified entries to the approved chapter (all references to the nominees name, signature lines and letterhead text are blocked out.

 

All information regarding the nominees is kept confidential.

 

The winner of the award will be announced at the annual Awards Night and Appreciation dinner.  Other nominees will not be announced.

Eligibility for Nomination of Candidates

 

Any NALS of West Michigan member in good standing, except members of  the Committee, may nominate her/his boss.  Former winners are not eligible for the award.
