NALS of West Michigan promotes and encourages continuing legal education, both for its members and for those in legal-related fields. To that end, I am excited to announce that NALS of West Michigan will once again be offering a scholarship to an individual continuing his/her education in a legal-related area, e.g. legal secretary, paralegal/legal assistant, attorney, etc.
NALS of West Michigan offers a $500 scholarship to be applied to the school of one's choice for tuition or other "school related" expenses (such as books, etc.).
The 2009 NALS of West Michigan Scholarship recipient, Lauren Fritz, is a Grand Valley State University student with a GPA of 3.853. She has completed her fifth semester and has been on the Dean’s List every semester. She is a member of the Law Society, the Association of Criminal Justice Students and Alpha Phi Sigma which is a Criminal Justice Honor Society. She actively volunteers and has participated in mentoring children with troubled upbringings. Both of her parents are self-employed, so she must work in order to pay her own tuition (she has one brother who is also attending college). After she receives her Bachelor’s degree she plans on attending law school. A Professor stated she is dedicated, exceptionally hard worker and reflects academic excellence. Her supervisor referred to her as having great interpersonal skills, a fast learner, and possesses a strong work ethic. Although she did not receive the State award, she was a very deserving candidate.
